Sunday's Trip to the Sea

JM on one of the bamboo benches in the heat of the summer sun.

Sunday found us taking a boat ride along the salty part of inland water. During the trip we saw the kinds of vegetation and animals that thrive in this part of the river. The boat ride took twenty minutes and we reached the part of the sea very near to the Gulf of Thailand. We didn't go any further because the boat was small and might get capsized by the big waves.

Crab fried rice for lunch. Yum !

This is the Bangkok Sea View Restaurant. Notice that "sticks" are supporting the whole structure. Note also that the entire place is standing on mud. According to a staff of the restaurant, water would surround the restaurant at high tide. Unfortunately, we came at the time when the summer heat is at its extreme, making the entire place dry and dull.

This is the part of the sea where the territory of Bangkok ends. If you go further, you will be in the Gulf of Thailand. Human activity is very much visible here. Notice the "sticks" at the background. A closer look will show you green mollusks which Thai people loves to eat grilled being cultured here.

Above is a photo of the kind of vegetation that thrives in inland salt water. The roots of the trees are big and grows above the water.

The part of the sea we went has dried out because of the heat and also because it was low tide. There was mud all around us and we found crabs digging for a cooler place to stay and in the photo above we noticed this sea animal that we cannot recognize if it is a fish or a crustacean.

The Resurrection

The Resurrection by Piero della Francesca, 1460
Museo Civico, Sansepolcro
When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the scripture that he had to rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned home.

Irish Blessings

May the road rise up to meet you,
may the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rain fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
May you have: A world of wishes at your command. God and his angels close to hand. Friends and family their love to impart, and Irish blessings deep in your heart!
May the Irish hills caress you. May her lakes and rivers bless you. May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.
May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all the way to your door.
May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, and may good luck pursue you each morning and night.
May your blessings outnumber the Shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go.

What Am I Doing This Summer ?

One thing I learned from one of my trips with my dad, they peddle fruits in boats here in Thailand.

Not only I love chasing pigeons, I also enjoy feeding them. This photo was taken during a trip to a nearby province with dad and grandma.

Aside from studying EXCEL this summer, reading before bedtime occupies my time.

Sunday's Photos

JM assisting Fr. Martin during the ceremony of the blessing of the palms outside the church.

Instead of the usual floral bouquets on the altar every Sunday, yesterdays bouquets on the main and side altars are made of woven palm leaves to commemorate Jesus triumphant entry to Jerusalem.

Happy Birthday Sis !

Today, the 16th of March marks another milestone in your life. Wishing you all the best on this happy occassion and may all your dreams come true. Happy, happy birthday and God Bless you !

How to Use Palms on Palm Sunday

Step 1: Attend mass on Palm Sunday. Observing this rite will focus you on the significance of the palm. This also is the easiest way to obtain a palm of your own.

Step 2: Have the palm blessed. A priest will usually do this before the palms are distributed.

Step 3: Take a palm when it is given to you. Hold it carefully so it will not break or tear before you get it home.

Step 4: Take the palm home with you. Observing Palm Sunday doesn't just happen at Mass. Rather, you can continue to observe the first Sunday of Holy Week at home with your palm.

Step 5: Cut off a section of the palm and place it on a crucifix, holy picture or other blessed object in the house. Use the palm frond at home, in the garage or in an outdoor barn or shed if you have it. Many worshipers believe the palm will provide blessings and protection.

Step 6: Offer a portion of your palm as a peace offering to someone with whom you have quarreled in the past. This is a tradition sometimes practiced in Italy.

Step 7: Make a crucifix with the palm and pin it into your lapel. Cut a 3-inch long, half-inch wide piece of palm and put a quarter-inch slash down its middle, 1 inch from the top. Cut a second piece of palm, 2 inches long and a quarter-inch wide. Slide the second piece through the slash to form your cross.

Step 8: Keep the palm instead of throwing it away. Before Easter next year, burn the palm and use those ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Sunday of the Lord's Passion

The very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the road. The crowds preceding him and those following kept crying out and saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest." And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken and asked, "Who is this?" And the crowds replied, "This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee."
Matthew 21: 8-11

Plumeria

The flowers of Poinsettia are beginning to wilt and fall. This summer is the season for the Plumeria or Kalachuchi flowers to bloom. Although used in the Philippines to make funeral wreaths, it is widely planted in Thailand for ornamental purposes.

Make Your Own Magazine Cover

I've done and submitted practically every single report since Friday last week. But we're still required to report for work even the schedule is no longer busy because of the summer break. Anyway, I've got lots of free time to search the internet on practically every topic that interests me. I accidentally came upon a website that enabled me to make a magazine cover of my own. Click on the image on this post to go that site and have fun making your own magazine cover !
